BiographyAfter finishing my Theatre Design degree at Nottingham University, I went on to train as a Jeweller/Silversmith at London Goldsmiths University.
I worked as a Scenic Artist for some years before moving to Australia to take up a position as Head of Scenic Art at Opera Australia (for examples of my theatre, mural and portraiture work please go to www.sharnaflowers.com.au I returned to my first love of jewellery design recently and have benefited from my background in theatre which influences my work, inviting a story line into the pieces I create. Combining elements of folklore, symbol and form, each piece evolves organically. The idea that a piece of jewellery can hold specific meaning for the wearer as well as becoming a beautiful piece of adornment is captivating, and informs the basis of my design process. I use centuries old traditional techniques to pierce, form and shape each piece of jewellery from silver, gold and semi-precious stones, and often work on private commissions as well as collections for artisan craft markets and select retail outlets.
